THE FOUNDER:
MEANS is the outcome of the desire of Dr. O. Gnana Prakash who was born in a poor marginalized family in Warangal District of Andhra Pradesh. He lost his mother when he was still a little boy because she was suffering from serious illness and there was no medical care available at that time in their remote village. She died while being taken to a hospital. This made a great impact on his life and he decided to become a doctor to serve people in need as he understood what it means to be a DESTITUTE. During his student life, he had to work hard to earn money to pay his own school fees. He has drawn inspiration from Dr. David Werner’s concept “Where there is no Doctor”. The factors such as his mother succumbing to sickness as there was no doctor or medical facilities in their village and his experiences in the slums of Hyderabad, motivated him to initiate MEANS to serve the sick and the needy who could not afford to pay for medical care.
After completing his medicine (BHMS), he started practicing in the slums of Moula-Ali and he earned a reputation as “Poor People’s Doctor”. To fulfill his life ambition of serving the poor and the destitute, he started a Home for the Aged (Home for the Destitute) with the concept of providing medical care to the old and needy.
